Blog 1 - Hire an Illustrator

Apolline Etienne is an illustrator who focuses on folk-lore character concepts and atmospheric, otherworldly landscapes. This artist seems to enjoy expressing herself through her work more than words, and not much is shared on social media about Apolline herself. She does say she is French and currently living in Scotland. Upon discovering her other social medias, however, I recognized a picture she drew the album cover for an indie song developer I found over 3 years ago! I had always wondered who designed it, and by luck I finally know and can appreciate more of her art style.

While many of her works have the same "theme," I found it very hard to decide which picture to showcase. Each drawing has variety in creatures, plants, and colors yet all of them could easily dwell in the same universe. Her use of color combinations and dynamic shading is quite extraordinary and shows a lot of practice/knowledge. I personally love her lineless, painterly style that allows texture and lighting to become the highlight of her work. Not many of her characters (even when they are the only thing drawn) seem stagnant or lifeless and blend with the scenery in an enchanted way. The whimsical flowers, bugs, main characters, and buildings she has drawn makes me want to hear the story behind each one of them.
